Staff Spotlight: Alyssa Marshall

If you have ever gone through the registers at the co-op, you have probably seen Alyssa, or maybe you saw her working in the produce department…not there? She must have been working on memberships. Alyssa wears so many different hats at the co-op it’s hard to keep track!

I had a chance to sit down with Alyssa and talk about her many experiences at the co-op going back to before it even opened.

The Basics:

Department(s): Front End, Produce, and Membership Coordinator (but Produce is my favorite, don’t tell Kerry!)

Years at our Co-op: Five and a half.

Hidden Talent: I’ve been told I can whistle beautifully.

Favorite Product: I love all of our local produce, you truly can’t beat it.

Favorite Co-op Event: I really enjoy or local BBQs. We use to do the occasional ice cream social and those were also a ton of fun.

Digger Deeper:

What do you love about our Co-op: It is such a nice space, just being in the co-op makes me feel comfortable and genuine. Every time I walk in I feel uplifted.

Which of the co-op’s Ends Policies are most important to you: I think sustainability is incredibly important. I believe that it is a part of pretty much everything that we work for here at the co-op; helping local farmers, local producers, cutting down on energy usage.

What excites you most about the upcoming expansion: Everything! Since I have been working at the co-op since before it opened, I think the expansion is going to make me feel like I am working in an entirely new place! I can’t wait for the new break room, having more space there is very exciting!

The Fun Stuff:

Which animal would make the best president if/when the animal kingdom ever rises up and takes over: Definitely a giraffe, they would be able to oversee everything. They are pretty big and kinda scary, plus they have really creepy tongues.

What are you going to be for Halloween: Every year I go as a Slytherin student from Harry Potter. I have the official Slytherin gear from Universal Studio, so it is always a lot of fun.

What’s the best concert you have been to recently: I saw BTS in concert which was amazing. They are the first Korean band to ever perform in America and have been winning all kinds of awards and recognition recently.

Final Fun Fact: I have been a licensed cosmetologist since 2014 and an aesthetician since 2015. If I had the chance, I would want to do more with aesthetics.
