Staff Picks! February 2017

Februrary 2017

Rishi Tea House Matcha Tea

This matcha is the real deal—a fantastic first flush pick, Japanese powder. It’s a great price for .70 grams—I’ve shopped around! I’m crazy about this super condensed green tea—160x the benefits of regular green tea—and this one is amazing for many reasons, like taste, but the health benefits are really why I love it.

You have to prepare this with a bowl and a whisk, preferably with a traditional set but you could probably get by with a traditional whisk. Plain, hot, and make sure to get a lot of foam when whisking!

I recommend matcha tea with a side of butter cookies.

Granny Smith Apples

This is my favorite snack—easy to grab, eat and go— and so healthy! I think this local, organic, tart treat is best eaten cold.

One Degree Veganic Sprouted Brown Rice Cacao Crisps

As someone with a lot of dietary restrictions, finding a delicious, chocolatey cereal was incredibly difficult. But this organic, non-GMO cereal is also gluten, dairy, and refined sugar free and it’s so good! Try it with So Delicious Unsweetened Coconut Milk for a satisfying vegan treat.

All the ingredients are traceable, and you can learn about the farmers and their growing practices at OneDegreeOrganics.com. I just spent 6 weeks on the island of Bali, Indonesia, and the cacao used to make this cereal comes from Bali! I saw a lot of cacao trees while I was there. What a small world!

Covington Sweet Potatoes

Sweet potatoes made it to the “Top 41” Superfoods list, as determined by the CDC, based on foods that have the highest nutrient density and subsequently lower the risk of heart disease and cancer. These local sweet potatoes from Picadilly Farm in Winchester, NH (just 20 minutes from the store!) are truly the sweetest with the best texture for baking and mashing.

My favorite way to enjoy these is to bake them, scoop out the flesh and mash with a little butter, milk, and maple syrup (a great alternative to mashed potatoes!). I’ll take these over regular potatoes any day!
