Every month we get a whole array of new products that land on the shelves of the Monadnock Food Co-op. We’re happy to welcome a new local product in our beer and wine aisle!
COFFIN CELLARS
Coffin Cellars is a family-run country winery located in Webster, NH specializing in wines made from fruits and berries. And occasionally vegetables!
Peter Coffin Austin started making wines as a hobby back in the 1970s. He was inspired by naturalist Euell Gibbons and his books, such as Stalking the Wild Asparagus. As his sons grew older, Jamie and Tim joined in their father’s love for creating wine and sharing their product at family gatherings.
With rave reviews from close friends and relatives, we decided to take the plunge and open a winery and in 2009, Coffin Cellars was formed. You can learn more about the winery and the origins of the name on their website. Here are the four bottles on our shelves right now:
Black Current Wine
Black Current, also know as Cassis, this full-bodied red explodes with tart berry flavors and bold tannins, true to the unusual fruit.
Cranberry-Pomegranate Wine
Their #1 selling wine is both sweet and dry. Finishes with the crisp taste of cranberry.
Jalapeno Wine
Not for the faint of heart! This spicy treat will be the life of any party and is a bartender staple for mixing spicy cocktails. Try cooking with it as well!
Hard Apple Cider
Inspired by an old family friend’s recipe, this is their first Hard Cider. It’s a dry Spanish-Style non-carbonated cider made from NH heirloom apples giving it unique hints of flowers and honey.
