You may see Mac stocking the shelves in the dairy or frozen section, but he has another essential role at our co-op. Our coach! Mac has been the driving force in setting up our softball matches against Badger Balm. With plenty of energy and enthusiasm to go around, Mac always has a smile on his face.
The Basics
Department: Grocery & Produce
Current Position: Grocery & Produce Clerk
Years at our Co-op: 2 years as of May!
Where is your hometown? I was adopted in Lima, Peru. But I’ve also lived in Milwaukee, WI and Keene, NH.
Favorite Product: It is between the WTR MLN WTR cold-pressed watermelon juice or the Evolution cold-pressed orange juice.
Favorite Co-op Event: I was a picker at the Truckload Sale for the first time this spring and that was a lot of fun. Earth Day is also a great event too!
Hidden Talent: I am pretty good at art. I like to do Batik artwork. You use wax to make an outline of a design on cloth and then dye the cloth. Usually, I make tapestries. It took me a year to make one for my friend that was 5 x 6 feet. I started in high school and have continued since!
Digger Deeper
What’s your food and culinary background? My parents eat a lot of natural foods and so that has familiarized me with the products that we sell at the co-op. I cook a little bit at home, but my sister is more into cooking than I am!
What do you love about our co-op? There are a lot of friendly customers and they are always interested in learning and talking about new products. It is always nice to see people who don’t know a lot about our products come in and learn about them. The workers here are all really nice to work with too.
What do you do outside of work? Art obviously, but I also really enjoy sports. I am on a softball team now; I play soccer when I have time, watch sports, and work out.
The Fun Stuff
If you could only play one sport for the rest of your life, what would it be?Soccer. I love it! My favorite team is Liverpool. They’ve come to the US for spring training the past few years and I’ve been able to see them play. It was awesome. I am hoping to see them this summer again.
If you had to eat dinner with three famous people, dead or alive, who would they be? Well first, we would definitely eat in the café of the co-op (haha). Let’s see… Joshua Chamberlain, who was a lieutenant colonel for the 20th Maine volunteer infantry regiment during the Civil War. Jurgen Klopp, who is the Liverpool Football Manager, and Herb Brooks who coached the 1980 gold-medal US Men’s Hockey Team.
What is your favorite comfort food/family recipe? My dad and I make pizzas and meat pies together. We make the dough from scratch, so that is pretty comforting!
Anything else to share? Well, I am the best grocery clerk – just kidding! I’ve been to Peru, Ecuador, and lived in Costa Rica for half a year. I had to wear a uniform at the private school I went to and while I was there, Bill Clinton came down and they basically shut down the entire country, so we went on vacation for two weeks!
