During the month of March, Monadnock Food Co-op encourages customers to round their purchase totals up to donate their change to Stonewall Farm in Keene. Stonewall Farm is a non-profit farm and organic dairy with the mission of engaging the community in healthy living through farming and education while providing a special place for all to gather.
This fantastic community resource and close partner of our cooperative is raising funds to build a new barn for the animals used in their agricultural education programs like summer camp, 4-H Clubs and their adult education series. The current shelter for the animals is inadequate and starting to fall apart! The Round Up donations they receive would help secure additional funding for this project, for which Bensonwood has donated design services. Those who want to give more can also contribute through The Local Crowd, a new crowdfunding site brought to us by Monadnock Buy Local.
If you haven’t visited Stonewall Farm yet, know that it is free and open to the public every single day of the year! You can bike or hike the trails, play in the nature-based playground, visit with the animals or watch their daily milkings. Many schools in our area make field trips to the farm, enabling hundreds of children each year to connect with nature and the importance of a healthy, sustainable, local food system. If you are interested in attending their agriculture and homesteading workshops for adults, 4H or summer camps (scholarships available), check out their education offerings here. You can also find their products, like yogurt, on the shelves of our co-op.
If Stonewall Farm is able to secure enough funding by June, we might all be able to help raise the barn in September!
