Tired of pumpkin pie? Try this comforting dessert instead this fall.
1 cup pureed pumpkin or other winter squash
½ cup maple syrup
2 cups whole milk
¼ tsp salt
1 tsp cinnamon
¼ tsp ground ginger
¼ tsp ground nutmeg
1 tsp vanilla extract
4 cups cubed bread, homemade cinnamon bread is very tasty, but any bread will work
Butter for greasing pan
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease an 8-inch pan with soft butter and add cubed bread. Mix together remaining ingredients in a mixing bowl. Pour pumpkin mixture over bread and stir to coat bread. Bake for about half an hour, or until the center of the custard is set.
