A New Year! I’m so proud and grateful for all we collectively accomplished together in 2017: our Farm Fund, launching our Co-op Explorers Club, our community contributions, and sustainability initiatives stand out among the top!
We’re really excited about 2018 and our work to serve you and our community better. With that in mind, we continue to explore our expansion project. Several of you shopping around the holidays commented on how cramped the store felt and we think this project will ensure an improved experience in our co-op. We strongly believe that grocery shopping should be fun!
Staff have long felt the challenges of our space constraints as we’ve needed to move both our Marketing and Finance departments off site. Furthermore, an expanded store can dramatically increase our purchases from local farmers and producers, better supporting them and their families. We also know the co-op will be able to offer more healthy choices and make our store even more accessible through lowered pricing.
At the end of 2017, we submitted all the necessary application paperwork for a Community Development Block Grant. We expect to learn the outcome in early February, which will determine if our current financial modeling is accurate and if we are ready to move forward. If that step goes as successfully as we hope, we’ll then begin some planning and design work for the interior of our expanded store.
There will be formal methods for Member-Owners and customers to provide feedback on the project and contribute ideas on how we can best serve you in early 2018, so stay tuned! We’ve already received several ideas from excited members, including offering an electric car charging station.
