SUMMARY:8th Annual Conservation Commision Potluck
DESCRIPTION:You’re invited to Cheshire County’s Annual Conservation Commission Potluck! Join us for an evening of connection\, a presentation on turtle conservation in New Hampshire\, and a roundtable discussion! Conservation Commission members and the general public are invited to join the Cheshire County Conservation District and the NH Association of Conservation Commissions for an exciting evening at Stonewall Farm! Join Josh Megyesy from New Hampshire Fish & Game’s Nongame and Endangered Wildlife Program for a discussion on at-risk turtle conservation and the role research and monitoring has played in guiding those efforts. His talk will cover basic ecology\, habitat preference\, threats\, and how research is conducted. Josh will discuss the conservation actions necessary for the continued existence of rare turtles\, the tools available to help\, the importance of citizen science\, and the federal\, state\, municipal\, NGO\, and private partnerships needed to make it all happen. About Josh: Josh Megyesy is a wildlife biologist with the New Hampshire Fish & Game Department’s Nongame and Endangered Wildlife Program. Since joining the Program in 2014\, Josh has conducted research and monitoring for at-risk turtle populations including Blanding’s\, wood\, spotted\, and eastern box turtles. His work has been critical in identifying priority populations and conservation areas where he has focused efforts on land protection\, habitat management\, and technical assistance/Best Management Practices to private landowners and land managers. Josh also works with regional partners to develop conservation strategies\, outreach materials\, and coauthors scientific publications. Beyond turtles\, he also helps coordinate the Reptile and Amphibian Reporting Program and works with other state-listed reptile and amphibian populations. This event is a collaboration between the NH Association of Conservation Commissions\, the Cheshire County Conservation District\, and Stonewall Farm. | When: 6:00PM: Arrival and Drop off Dishes 6:10PM: Presentation: At-risk Turtle Conservation in New Hampshire – Using Science and Partnerships to Protect a Declining Taxa 7:30-8:00PM: Round Table Discussion on the Role of Conservation Commissions in Turtle Conservation. | Attendees are asked to bring a dish to share for the evening’s potluck if they can.
