DESCRIPTION:Credits available: 4 pesticide applicator credits; NHCLP; ISA \nThe 2024 Fall Field Day is an event not to miss!  This year’s field day will feature even more vendors\, speakers\, and demonstrations than last year.  This is a great opportunity to send your staff to learn about emerging issues\, experience hands-on skill building\, network with industry peers\, and earn professional credits. At only $25 per person with lunch included\, this is a great value! \nCome experience hands-on interactive demonstrations including setting a bluestone patio\, calibrating a backpack sprayer\, using excavator-mounted lasers\, and much more. \nLearn about tree diseases\, management of invasive jumping worms\, the art of Japanese pruning\, and more in classes presented by specialists from UNH Extension and industry partners. \nCost: $25 per person – lunch included! So we can plan for food and supplies\, preregistration is required. \nSESSION DESCRIPTIONS  \nMatrix Planting: A Guide to Mimicking Natural Plant Communities in the Built Environment \n9am – 10am\, Big Barn\, Meg Herndon\, M Herndon Landscape Architecture\, LLC \nMatrix planting is a low-maintenance\, layered technique that emphasizes creating plant communities rather than collections of individual species. In this session\, landscape architect\, Meg Herdon\, will cover the benefits of working with landscape plugs\, the concept of plant sociability\, and techniques for ensuring staggered bloom sequences throughout the growing season. \nNH Pesticide Regulatory Review and Update \n9am – 10am\, Amphitheater\, David Rousseau\, NHDAMF\, Division of Pesticide Control \nAs pesticide regulations change\, it’s your responsibility to stay up to date and comply with new rules. David Rousseau\, director of NH Division of Pesticide Control will provide a pesticide regulation review and will discuss recent and anticipated regulatory changes that applicators need to be aware of. (* 1 pest credit) \nClimbing Safety \n9am – 10am\, Cow Barn\, Chad Gagnon\, Enviro Arbor Solutions \nUnderstanding Construction Lasers \n9am – 11am\, Front Field\, Alan LaRose\, Jon LaRose\, Gus LaRose\, New England Laser \nA good construction laser is an investment. In this session\, New England Laser will discuss what to look for when investing in a rotating laser\, what to avoid\, features to consider\, and how to care for your laser. After the discussion\, lasers will be available for instruction\, hands on\, and questions. \nSetting a Natural Stone Patio \n9am – 11am\, Stone Wall\, Peter Ryder\, The Stone Trust \nLast year\, Pete Ryder and other members of the Stone Trust led a hands-on demonstration of proper stone wall building practices. This year’s demonstration will expand on that with the construction of a natural stone patio behind the wall. Learn how to construct the base\, proper techniques for strapping and setting of large slabs\, and the use of hand tools to cut and shape the flagging. \nTreat Your Clothes for Tick & Mosquito Protection \n10:30am – 11:30am\, Big Barn\, Matt Cahillane\, Ecological Solutions \nA hands-on workshop to learn about the only three EPA-approved short-term repellents that are known to be highly safe and effective on both ticks and mosquitos as well as how to treat clothing with long-term permethrin spray for six weeks of bug protection. Attendees: please bring a set of your own clothing (i.e. light-colored pants\, shirt\, socks\, shoes) to be treated on-site. You will receive a free bottle of Permethrin for you to take home for the next treatment. \nJapanese Gardens in America \n10:30am – 11:30am\, Amphitheater\, Palmer Koelb\, Shin-Boku Nursery \nShin-Boku Nursery follows a 1500+ year tradition of Japanese garden tree trimming in the production of truly unique stock and garden design. Learn about the causes of current tree decline and “best guess” speculations on what to expect going forward.
