Turning School Inside Out: Free Virtual Film Screening
September 19 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm
On September 19, 2020, Monadnock Food Co-op, Monadnock International Film Festival, and Antioch University New England will co-host a virtual screening of Turning School Inside Out, a locally produced documentary by Chris Hardee. This film follows what happens when the Chesterfield School in southwestern New Hampshire purchases a parcel of adjacent land and commits itself to use the area to improve student learning and well-being.
The film starts at 6:30 p.m. and a live post-film discussion will follow. This event is free, but registration is required at moniff.org/events.
“I have been so impressed by the staff and the thoughtful way they have used the new land. It has become a teaching tool right in our backyard,” said Sharyn D’Eon, Chesterfield School Principal. “Students and staff have found meaningful ways to bring content alive.”
“Students consistently comment on how much they enjoy their science classes outside, “Science teacher Sarah Plotczyk shared. “They find these outdoor learning opportunities to be hands-on, inclusive, and engaging. Students have expressed that they are more ready to learn when we are out on the land, and they are always surprised at how quickly the time passes. One student even remarked that the outdoor lessons had given her an idea for a future job!”
Chesterfield School is the largest elementary school in SAU 29 and maintains a current enrollment of 291 students in grades K-8 who reside in Chesterfield, Spofford, and West Chesterfield, NH.
