Canning and Food Preservation Workshop

For a number of years we’ve seen flyers for Billie & Sandy’s Canning Workshops at other Co-ops (and heard about the waiting list that formed for each event)… we’re THRILLED that our Co-op is now open and we can host this amazing duo!
Billie Stark and Sandy Hamm will present a free workshop on preserving your own garden produce. The workshop will include recipes, samples for tasting/testing, tips and suggestions, and a question and answer period. They’ll explain how to use tools and touch upon various techniques used in the process of canning. Between the two of them, Sandy and Billie have over 70 years of experience in growing, canning, and preserving food to feed their families.
Gain the knowledge and confidence to go and do it yourself or with a group of like minded folks!
Billie lives in West Brattleboro with her husband, as well as horses, dogs, cats, and chickens. She has been putting food by for close to 40 years, after a practical, “how-to” education from her mother-in-law. The Stark Family Farm includes a wide variety of fruit trees and berry bushes as well as a large annual vegetable garden and several flower beds. Billie has recently started making wine from her own fruit.
Sandy lives in Keene and with her husband has gardened and been putting foods by for the past 35 years. She began canning under the guidance of a farmer’s wife and adopted Grandma with years of practical experience. They are currently living on .23 acres of in-town land that includes apples, raspberries, blueberries, strawberries, rhubarb, asparagus and extensive vegetable gardens and flower patches with very limited lawn. She cans, preserves, cooks and bakes from scratch.
