We are launching a month-long Round It Up Donation Drive to benefit Meals on Wheels in Cheshire County throughout March. Nationwide, March for Meals is a month to raise awareness and money to feed housebound seniors, the majority of whom rely on the daily hot meal delivery both as their only meal of the day and their only personal interaction of the day.
The money raised at the Co-op will help Home Healthcare, Hospice & Community Services (HCS) provide nutritious meals to over 400 local seniors who are housebound and unable to prepare their own meals. Over 110,000 meals were delivered last year alone. Meals on Wheels not only enables seniors to remain living at home longer, but the program can provide one year of meals for roughly the same cost as one day in a hospital.
“Meals on Wheels is more than a meal; it is a daily safety check and a friendly visit during the day,” said Gia Farina, Nutrition Manager. “We’re excited to partner with the Co-op to bring more attention to and support for Meals on Wheels in Cheshire County.”
Last time Meals on Wheels in Cheshire County was selected as a Round It Up recipient co-op shoppers raised over $7,000 for the program, which relies on community donation to keep the meals available to those who need them.
