Box Bank: Help Us Reduce Our Bag Use

We’re pleased to announce the launch of a new box initiative to reuse the boxes we receive products in by offering them to you for transporting groceries home — in place of using disposable paper bags.

If you already bring in your own cloth bags, that is great — please don’t stop!  These boxes provide another option to customers who don’t have a bag.

Our goal is to reduce our bag-use by one-third.  Currently, we use roughly 1,800 large paper grocery bags a week.  If we reduce that to 1,200 a week, we’ll eliminate the use of 600 disposable bags and save our Co-op $260 a month — and $3,160 annually.

Here’s another benefit: Most of us have either experienced or witnessed someone’s paper bag failing.  It’s painful to watch, and our boxes will provide a much sturdier option for those
purchases.

In order to make this program a success, we need your help.  Next time you are at the cash register opt for a box instead of a bag — and please be sure to recycle the box when you are done.

Thank you for your continued support and participation.
