NH Eat LocalThroughout the month of August, the Monadnock Food Co-op celebrates New Hampshire Eat Local Month by offering a variety of farm and local food events including:

Farm Tour at Walpole Valley Farms in Walpole, NH
Saturday, August 2, 2014 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Participants will see how animals on this pasture-based farm are raised.  Discover the story behind these quality products on the Co-op’s shelves. Register today! Cost: Free.

Local Foods BBQs at the Monadnock Food Co-op Outdoor Patio, Keene, NH
Friday, August 8, 2014 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday, August 30 from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. The menu will feature locally grown and made items for both meat-lovers and vegetarians.  Local musicians will also perform. Cost: $7-$8/plate.

Mushroom Tasting & ID with Wichland Woods at the Monadnock Food Co-op, Keene NH
Saturday, August 9, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.  David Wichland from Wichland Woods will cook up some of his tasty mushrooms for you to taste.  Also, bring in your wild mushrooms for Dave to identify for you.  Cost: Free.

Tasting with Orchard Hill Breadworks at the Monadnock Food Co-op, Keene NH
Saturday, August 16, 10am – 1pm.  Try a sample of locally made bread from Orchard Hill Breadworks in Alstead, NH.  Cost: Free.

Gleaning Information Session at the Monadnock Food Co-op, Keene, NH
Wednesday, August 20 from 5:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. Sarah Harpster from the Community Kitchen of Keene’s Gleaning Program will share information about gleaning and how it fights hunger, supports local farmers and reduces waste.  Learn more and discover how you can get involved.  Cost: Free.

Tasting with Sap House Meadery at the Monadnock Food Co-op, Keene NH
Thursday, August 21, 4 – 6pm.  Come enjoy a sample of Sap House Meadery’s Mead (aka Honey Wine) made with fresh and local ingredients.  Cost: Free.

Canning Workshop at the Monadnock Food Co-op, Keene, NH
Tuesday, August 26, 2014 from 6:30 p.m. – 8 p.m. Billie Stark and Sandy Hamm will present a workshop on food preservation and share recipes, samples for tasting/testing, tips and suggestions.  Register today! Cost: Free.

All events are open to the public.

Many locally grown and made products will also be on sale at the Co-op during New Hampshire Eat Local Month.  From July 30 – August 19, some of the products on sale include Echo Farm Pudding (made in Hinsdale, NH), Ground Beef from Manning Hill Farm (raised in Winchester, NH), Cheshire Garden Mustard (made in Winchester, NH), Organic Patty Pan Squash and Carrots from Picadilly Farm (grown in Winchester, NH) and much more.  Our MFC Deals flyer will be posted here.
